Silas works as an alternative texting converter for the Disability Access Center at Western Washington University. They have facilitated gender and sexuality awareness training, as well as veteran and disability coordination between offices at the University. After serving in the US Navy, Silas has service connected mental health disability. Their exposure to inaccessibility in VA programs led them on a journey of education and social justice work in disability identity and
advocacy. As someone who was a Certified Fitness Leader in the military and an avid outdoor explorer before separating from service, they are invested in recognizing how mental health barriers impact relationships with outdoor spaces and activities. Their passion lies in creating space/platforms for intersectional perspectives and bringing their experience as a queer, trans, veteran with disability to social services, institutions, policies and structures.
